I had chosen this story not because it was popular, but I found it myself interesting.

Indian dad avoids washing for 35 years

A 63 year-old Indian dad named Kailash "Kalau" Singh, living in a village called Chatav outside the holy city of Varanasi was having a bit of bad luck having 7 daughters.

He had not washed himself nor brush his teeth in 35 years. He believes not washing himself would give him some luck and have his next child a boy.

Instead of taking a bath and brushing his teeth, he would do a "fire bath" each evening, wile standing on one leg, smoking Marijuana and says sacred prayers to Lord Shiva.

"It's just like using water to take a bath.” According to Kalau."A fire bath helps kill germs and infections in the body."

His family believes that he refused to take the ritual dip in the river Ganes even after his brother died 5 years ago.

"I still don't remember how it all began. I just know that it started 35 years ago.” he reported.

The grocery store Kalau used to own had closed down when costumers stopped shopping due to his "unhealthy personality".

Kalau's neighbors believed that there was another reason why he didn't want to was himself.

"A seer once told Kalau that if he does not take a bath,” a man called Madhusudan said "he would be blessed with a male child."

Most Indians preferred sons rather than daughters because, girls are burdens because of the matrimonial dowry demanded by the groom's family, plus their earnings goes to their husbands family.

Response:

I don't believe that a fire bath could help kill germs and infections, I think he either lied or made it up. Taking a shower is better than a fire bath, obviously.

How come he's been doing it for 35 years, but he still doesn't have a son.Not to disrespect his culture or himself, but I think he's believing in a joke.

I agree with those costumers, I also think that he was unhealthy, dirty, gross and has an "unhealthy personality/habit" YUCK!!

Alicia here.

NEWS ARTICLE:Mother Jailed Over Death of 7 year old son

28 year old Mary Joachim was jailed for 7 years for not being able to provide support or care, to her 7 year old son, Duwayne Pailegutu.7 year old Duwayne Pailegutu was believed to be beaten severley by his 37 year old step father, Johnny Joachim for leaving his jumper at school and for not showing him respect. This had left Duwayne paralysed and struggling to breathe.

Duwayne Pailegutu died on July 2nd, 8 days after the vicous attack by his step father.
Johnny Joachim was found guilty of murder, and was jailed for life in October, with an 18 year non-parol period, for brutal murder.

RESPONSE TO MY ARTICLE:
I think that Johnny Joachim, (step father) does not have the right to kill a child for not bringing home his jumper, and for not letting the childs mother to seek any medication after beating him severley.

As adults, they could have sorted this out reasonably by advising him that next time he should be more responsible of his things.
I think this is a good sentence given to the people who neglect their children and failing to provide with the necessities of life.

I will send my response next time

Bye!!!

Alicia, why did you say:
"I will send you my response next time"
Your response was like above it. You also for got your reference.

Nice article, very sad story though. I agree with you, the father doesn't have the right to kill the child. Very good response too Alicia!

LOS ANGELES - There's nothing all that charming about Nintendo's latest gadget.

It's not as zany as a zapper or as cool as a steering wheel. It doesn't even tell you whether you're losing weight. However, the gamemaker is hoping a small cube-shaped device called Wii MotionPlus will take the Wii's motion-sensing controls to a new level of precision.

It's no secret the wrist-flicking Wii Remote's lack of accuracy has long been the console's clunky downfall. The Wii MotionPlus successfully defeats that dilemma by using gyroscopic sensors to exactly mimic gamers' hand movements, making such activities as sword fighting, disc throwing and golf look seamless on screen.

"The great thing about this particular new technology, which isn't always true for other new technologies, is that we immediately saw the benefits of it," said Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 senior producer Jason Shenkman.

"Before I even touched it or got my hands on it, I knew exactly what having a gyroscope in our possession would do for this game."

AdvertisementElectronic Arts' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will be the first game bundled with the Wii MotionPlus. Shenkman insists the increased sensitivity doesn't boost difficulty because instant feedback helps gamers before their shots.

Nintendo has been pairing cute peripheral gadgets with games since launching the Wii, such as the Wii Wheel, Wii Zapper and Wii Balance Board, the scale-ish device packaged with Wii Fit.

Just how Nintendo plans to market the obscure Wii MotionPlus accessory - or why such technology wasn't originally included in the controller - is unclear.

"We are always looking at ways to enhance the gaming experience for consumers," said Denise Kaigler, Nintendo vice president of corporate affairs. "This was another way of enhancing the gaming experience, and consumers will hopefully choose to experience that more immersive type of gameplay and enjoy it."

Daphney, when I said I will send my response next time, I meant I will send a response to yours, not to mine .

I went through your article, and I'd like to comment on it.

RESPONSE TO DAPHNEY'S ARTICLE:

Daphney, I agree with you, how you said that fire baths dont kill germs, but not only does it not kill germs, but when you have a bath in fire, you will get burnt.

I agree with the fact that he's believing in a joke.

And also Daphney, I think your article is VERY interesting, due to the fact that he didn't take a bath
for 35 years, and it's not likely that anyone would not have a shower for 35 years.

Since he takes drugs, he probably doesn't know what on earth he's doing.
Maybe when he takes drugs, he can't feel the pain when he bathes in fire.

Don't mock, this bird can really tell people apart.

North American mockingbirds can recognise people and will aggressively target those who have previously posed a threat to their nests, a study has found.

I think it is amazing how these tiny birds are able to recknize people from far distanses away.

Plus these birds are just trying to protect there spices so think about us being them you would protect your baby.

Don't mock, this bird can really tell people apart
8:55AM Tuesday May 19, 2009
Steve Connor

North American mockingbirds can recognise people and will aggressively target those who have previously posed a threat to their nests, a study has found.A species of songbird has been shown to identify individual people in a crowd in order to target them aggressively if they pose a threat to their nests.

North American mockingbirds can distinguish between individual men and women out of many thousands based on whether they have a history of getting too near to their nests, a study has found.

It is the first time that anyone has shown that wild birds are able to tell people apart and is one of the rare examples of one species being able to distinguish between individual members of another species, scientists said.

The mockingbirds in the study quickly learnt to identify people who regularly came too close to their nests on a busy university campus populated by thousands of passing students.

The birds responded to further encroachments by screeching, dive bombing and sometimes grazing the heads of the intruders.

However, this extreme aggression was limited to those people who had already come too close to the birds' nests on two previous occasions. First-time human intruders were treated with far less aggression, the scientists found.

Advertisement"We tend to view all mockingbirds as equal, but the feeling is not mutual. Mockingbirds certainly do not view all humans as equal," said Professor Doug Levey of the University of Florida in Gainesville, who led the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"We do not believe mockingbirds evolved an ability to distinguish between humans. Mockingbirds and humans haven't been living in close association long enough for that to occur.

"We think that our experiments reveal an underlying ability to be incredibly perceptive of everything around them, and to respond appropriately when the stakes are high," Professor Levey said.

'Kiwi record attempt need guitar players'

Manakau Courier

from www.stuff.co.nz

This article I found is about the
NZ world record breaking attempt for most guitarists playing the same song.

On the 24th of May 2009 Juice tv and sky city are sponsoring a world record attempt for most guitars played in one song and are trying to beat 'Smoke on the water' played in Germany with 1,800people

They are going to play 'Why does love do this to me' by The Dance Exponents [Jordan Luck] The article says this song is an iconic of our music heritage.
This also about The NZ music month.

Response: I think this is a really good idea to prove New Zealand as a record breaking country.
As I play the guitar I'm going to register tommorow,[hopefully] so let's see if we do it.
As the article said this is one of NZ's favourite songs and like because it is nice and easy and it is also very tuneful.

I have chose this artical because i thought that since they don't know what caused this plane to crash it might be intersting

JAKARTA, Indonesia - An Indonesian military plane carrying more than 100 people has crashed into several homes and burst into flames, killing at least 69 people, officials said.

Dozens of people were injured and more were feared dead, with local television flashing footage of fire engulfing the mangled wreck age and soldiers carrying bodies on stretchers. Some were badly burned.

Air force spokesman Bambang Sulistyo said the C-130 Hercules, carrying 112 passengers and crew, was on a routine training mission when it crashed near an air force base in East Java province.

It smashed into four houses in Geplak village, before skidding into a rice field.

It was not clear what caused the crash, the latest in a string to hit the air force.

Several witnesses said the plane split apart in the air following a loud explosion.

"One of the wings fell off," Agus Yulianto, a villager, was quoted as saying on the website of Kompas newspaper.

"Then the plane nose-dived into the houses."

The death toll stood at 69, said Suyono, a spokesman at the air force base, adding that he expected the number to climb.

Huge plumes of black smoke billowed from the scene and bystanders were seen throwing buckets of water and sand at the flames.

Ambulances were shuttling victims to a nearby hospital.

The country's air force has long complained of being underfunded and handicapped by a recently lifted US ban on weapons sales.

It has suffered a series of accidents, including a Fokker 27 plane that crashed into an airport hangar last month, killing all 24 onboard.

A series of commercial airline crashes in recent years has killed more than 120 people in Indonesia.

My comment:I think that, thats a high rate of people dead and i also think whats as strange is the fact that they don't know who or how this might of happened.

vahed1! I agree, it is sort of interesting how they didn't expect the plane to crash and didn't know what happened.

And also I enjoyed reading jackspratt's article. It's really cool! I wish my mum would buy me one even though chances are very slim! Please include your response too. It would be fun reading it too!
