Our Wonderful World

In Room 18 we are lucky to have had some contact with another teacher from Argentina, her name is Florencia.

Her students are wanting to know about New Zealand and Auckland - so it is our opportunity to tell them about our wonderful country. We live in a beautiful place, a place of freedom with so many wonderful and unique things about us and our culture. Be proud Kiwi's and share your country!

For our Argentina friends - can you tell us about your beautiful country too?

As an extension you can also choose one other country you are interested in and find some things out about it. Be sure you look where it is in the world on a map. Here is a link to Google Maps.

DO THESE THINGS FOR YOUR TASKS:

- Write some information about your life in New Zealand. What are some unique things that we do here that may not be done else where?

- Find out some interesting facts about another country in the world … At least 10 things. You could do it as a ‘Did you know?’ if you wish to.

New Zealand is a beautiful country or known as an Island. It is possibly unique for the rare bird, the kiwi where no other country has ever found.

North Island is famous for it's volcanoes, also New Zealand has a spectacular landscape with clear water surrunding it.

Some of the common teams like the All Blacks, or the Silver Ferns represent our country (Aotearoa)widely and openly.
The New Zealand National Anthem is also very unigue and special.

Unlike any other country New Zealand has just the right temperature. Not too cold or not too hot!!!

Im Milo and in my life I will start with the sports I play Flippaball, Soccer, Netball at our school at the start of the assembly we sing our national anthem. England is not to different but there it snows in winter and is not as hot there. The UK has a much bigger population there is 52,000,000 people there and 4.5 million people here in new New Zealand. Other countries like Mexico are much hotter than here because they are closer to the equator than us. Antarctica is at the bottom of the earth so it won't get as much heat.

I think New Zealand is the best country ever, because its is quite unpolluted compared to other countries and its peaceful.

We also have Maori people who have lived here for a long time and I am proud to be Maori.

The weather in New Zealand is good because we have different seasons which I enjoy.

I do wish we had snow in Auckland in wintertime.

India!!!
The original country where I really come from is rich in culture and a flow in traditions, languages, beliefs, colors and faith. Ofcouse it is none other than India.

India is the biggest and most ancient experiment where almost all racial and ethnic groups of the world have met and mixed. It is also a world of freedom, love and joy.

Compared to other countries India maybe dusty on the first impression but if you get to know the reality it is truly an amazing country.

I'm glad to be an Indian just as I am, but I am also proud of being a kiwi and sharing yet another lovely country.

Did you know that.......... India is famous for it's woven fabrics and embroidery.Did you know that it took 20,000 workers to bulid a huge diamond mansion called the Taj Mahal!!! Did you know that people in India know how to speak and write 16 LANGUAGES!!!-Not including English (I know about 5 but my parents know about 8). Did you know that more than twice of the world's food varieties come from India. Did you that most Indian foods are spicy and I mean REAL SPICY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Zealand is a proud and substantially environmentally friendly country with an incredibly scenic countryside. We have miles of coastline with fascinating marine life. We have many exclusive birds and trees that are not seen in any other country. We also have a lot of interesting parks filled with NZ nativity. Although New Zealand has some disadvantages too. Such as the dangerously large amount of volcanoes surrounding Auckland. Even through Rangitoto (translated SKY OF BLOOD) is not as much of a threat as other volcanoes it is huge and may release lava bombs, pattering across particular areas of our landscapes and creating miniature eruptions on the ground.

New Zealand also known as Aotearoa. Many years ago New Zealand was not that well known until all our great sporting teams and sports people and sheep made our country well known through the world.

Our capital is Wellington. We are well known for our Kiwi fruit, jandals and L&P.

Our native bird is called the Kiwi.

In New Zealand I spend alot of time outdoors playing sports like football and cricket. This is made easier by our weather. I also like spending time in the water swimming, surfing and body boarding. In New Zealand in the summer we can go on holidays to one of our many beaches or lakes and in the winter when its cold I like to go skiing.

I live in a free standing house with my mum and my cat. My favourite sport is football and my favourite player is the Argentinian Sergio Arguero. My house is five minutes away from the city.

I like to eat roast pork and lamb and my favourite fruits are fejoas and blueberries .

New Zealand has three well known birds:
kiwi - our national bird, the kakapo which is the faterst parrot in the world and is very rare and last but not least the moa. It is extinct but it was the biggest bird in the world.

NZ is one of the most safest country's in the world because we don't have any dangerous animals only one. The Katipo spider is poisonous but you never see it because it is quite rare and is very scared of people!!!!!!!! We are safe because we are far away from the rest of the world and no one wants to take over our land.

There are lots of volcanoes in NZ, one of the most active is Mt.Ruapehu in the north Island. But I still go skiing on it in winter.

I like living in New Zealand.
