Olympics Day 2016

Last week S1 and the whole primary school were lucky enough to have Kelly Sport host an Olympics day at our school.

The Year 5/6 students took part in sprints, tug of war and team tactics. It was a lot of fun and also very competitive.

Here are a few snaps from the day.

Book Quiz 2016

Our annual book quiz really rocked!

Super S1 students went all out with their costumes and props for our team tables. It was great to see them all collaborating and co-operating to support each other. There was a real team spirit and S1 all worked together to get the job done.

Special thanks for our awesome librarian organisers Bronwyn and Anita who arranged an amazing 2 weeks of literacy fun.

Super Systems

Super S1 is currently learning around the big inquiry topic of 'All part of a system?' As part of our introduction we have been building our own style of Rube Goldberg machines using classroom equipment.

EOTC 2016 - What a blast!

What an amazing time we had at Motu Moana and Orakei Basin last week. We all used our Balmoral Habits well and over came many challenges, used team work and had a load of fun.

EOTC Gear List 2016

EOTC Gear List

All your gear must be clearly named – it is your responsibility to look after each day.

You MUST bring:
       Motu Moana
  • Empty 1.25 or 2.25 plastic bottle for Bottle Rockets (these go to your class in Week 5 and 6)
  • Sun block
  • Sunhat
  • Sport shoes (that can get dirty)
  • Rain coat or jacket (if the weather forecast suggests)
  • Snacks/Morning Tea
  • Lunch
  • Drink bottle
  • Insect repellent (OPTIONAL)
  • Change of clothes
  • Plastic bag for wet gear
  • Please no singlet tops, everyone must wear a top that covers shoulders.

Orakei Basin
  • Swimming togs
  • Sunblock (water resistant)
  • Towel
  • Sun hat
  • Rash shirt or t-shirt which can get wet (no bare shoulders)
  • Wet suit (if you have one - however, there are plenty at the Basin to wear)
  • Warm change of clothes
  • Old sports shoes or footwear that can get wet (everyone must wear shoes not jandals)
  • Snacks
  • Lunch
  • Drink bottle
  • Insect repellent (OPTIONAL)
  • Plastic bag for wet gear
  • Please no singlet tops, everyone must wear a top that covers shoulders.

You will need this to fit into your school bag, so that you can carry it on the bus.  It is always a good idea to have a practice packing your bag, so you know where everything is.

Welcome to 2016!

Wow! We are now back at school with all cylinders firing and ready to learn and have fun doing so.

The school holidays have finally come to an end and I am sure that each of us had a great time and a well deserved holiday break no matter where we were.

This year S1 will aim to add to our wonderful blog site, and continue to enhance our learning through the use of this online learning space.

There are a few rules to remember though ... here are our blog guidelines.

In working with this blog and any other webspaces, all students need to ensure that they follow these important guidelines. They are designed to make sure that you enjoy these spaces.

• Only ever use your first name or a nickname when you are writing on this or other blogs or wikis.
• Never use any other student’s last name.
• Never post any personal information–such as your home or cellphone number or home address on this or any other blog or wiki.
• Never share any of your usernames or passwords with anyone and never log in as another student.
• Always tell your parents or teacher right away if you come across anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.
• Remember the “grandma rule” that anything you put on the internet could be read by your grandmother so only write things you could say to the nicest of grannies.
• Be a good online citizen and never write or post anything that could hurt anyone else.
• Always check with an adult if someone asks for your phone number or to meet you.
• Never make arrangements to meet anyone over the internet. Always talk to your parents or teacher if this is an issue.
• Make sure you publish only your own work. Don’t under any circumstances use other people’s work and call it your own.
• Make sure that you read over your writing before you post it to check the spelling and that it reads okay.

If you wish to change or add to these rules please post a comment with details of our reasons.

Use this first post as a way to introduce yourself and your family. Include - your first name only, the suburb you live in, your year level, your interests and hobbies, what makes you unique and special, your family information - how many brothers and sisters you have, maybe even something interesting about your mum and dad, and of course tell us what goals you want to achieve this year in the wonderful S1!

Have fun and welcome to S1 2016!!!
