With a flash of lights and the beat of the bass Room 30 students showed how amazing they are with this sublime dance performance. With assistance from light technician Glenn the show was a hit with everyone in the audience.

Dance Preview...
Room 30 have been working so hard to show their learning around the big idea 'Connected?' in the form of dance this term. There has been a lot of teamwork, collaboration, problem solving and self-management - not to mention the amazing dance movements that have been created.
We share next week...but here is a little sneak peek.

Art Gallery - Looking at art.
What a great time we had at the art gallery last week. We learnt about two ways to view art and also had some time to work in the creative space and walk around some of the gallery. We got to go into part of the light show as well.
For this task:
- What did you enjoy and why?
- What are the two ways that we learnt about looking at art? Give examples using the pictures of our trip.

Kandinsky - Room 18 Creative Art
This term Room 18 has been studying abstract art and have produced some amazing interpretations using the artist Wassily Kandisky's abstract art as an inspiration for colour, line and form. They also used music to create their work, using music from Fiona Apple's 'Not about love' and Pink Floyd's 'Shine on you crazy diamond'.
Once all children have completed their work we will upload a slideshow of their work, but for now the children will reflect on their art experience.
Answer these questions:
What have you titled your work and why?
What have you learnt about abstract art? How is it different?
Make a comment on one of the images in the video shown below? What did you notice? What did you like? Make a comment about the colours and ideas you had in your work.
Which music inspired your piece the most and how?

Room 18 Drama Term 4
As part of the arts curriculum this term, Room 18 children have been learning about role play. They have learnt about being able to stay in role, creating a believable role and also fitting into a group of other children who are also in role. They have had a theme to follow and have all taken part enthusiastically.
Tony, our student teacher from The University of Auckland has been running this great unit and this photo slide show is a true representation of the children's enjoyment and learning.

Dance Term 2
Room 18 has been involved in creative dance as part of their arts focus this term. We have been focusing on learning some key vocabulary and skills associated with dance techniques.
In these videos you will see cannon, unison, levels, and body paths to name a few. Ask your child about what these words mean. The dances seen here are after one session with the song and are representative of around 45 minutes of work.
So far we have danced to a range of music chosen to highlight different rhythm selections. We have had 'Put your records on' by Corrine Bailey Rae, 'Heavy Cross' by Gossip - as seen in this video, and are now working on a slower song by Sinead O'Connor called 'Nothing Compares'.
We aim to work on one main dance to present at the end of Term 2, and will begin our work on that after we return from camp.
Note: Due to some children being absent one group is not shown here. However, they will be seen in videos to come.
ENJOY!!
